I'm trying to get interviews with some of the people involved with Being Eve.  So far, I have interviewed the band Jester!

Interview with Jester, February 2003.

Hey Everyone! Kia Ora! Thanks for your questions! Sorry it's been so long getting back to you, but now I've finally got a chance to answer your questions. (We've all been very busy at the moment, and I wanted to answer them properly and not rush them) So here are the answers.

KelC212@aol.com:

Was Being Eve your first break??

Well, we haven't actually had a "big break" as of yet. We are still one of the many struggling, incredibly hard working New Zealand bands who are battling with the NZ music industry to make it, and there are so many cool bands here. You guys in America would love them! The music scene here at the moment is really cool and bands like the Datsuns, and the D4 are opening the doors for a lot of bands to get their music noticed overseas.

So to answer your question, although it wasn't really our first break, Being Eve has been a real awesome thing in helping our music get noticed. The thing with Fries with That is that we actually wrote and recorded that song about 3 years ago. It was released as a single with a cool video which our singer John wrote and directed himself. It got played quite a lot on TV here in New Zealand and got noticed by quite a few people - but not as many as we would've liked.

Then the producers for Being Eve decided to use Fries with That as the main love song for Being Eve about a year and a half later which was great for us. Even more people got to hear our song on the TV and on the ads for the show and stuff which was great. People began to recognise the song when we played it at our concerts which we got a buzz out of. But the most INCREDIBLE thing about Being Eve for us is that we got to meet YOU GUYS!!! We would never, ever have imagined in our wildest dreams that people in America and other overseas countries would get to hear our music, and it's because of Being Eve that you guys got to hear our songs. We are so thankful to Being Eve for that. We have recieved more emails from people in America and the UK in the last couple of months that we have had from people in New Zealand!!! It's true, and we are stunned! So THANK YOU so much for getting in touch with us, it means a lot!

But we are still waiting for that big break, and hopefully when it does, we will be able to come over to the U.S to meet you guys in person! :)

frack7899@yahoo.com:

I would just like to know where I can get any of your music. Fries With That is a great song, and I only could find a version of it when they were on some show and the recording isn't that good. Thanks a bunch!

You can get the MP3 of Fries with that on the website www.amplifier.net.nz

We're sorry we don't have any CD's over in the States that you can buy, but at the moment it's just too difficult to get a CD distributed over there. BUT we are working on it, we really want to do a CD specifically to send over to you guys, but I'll keep you posted on that.

By the way, what recording is that one you were talking about? The one on the show? I'm just curious as to know which show it came off. Was it being eve? Let me know some time. Thanks:)

melcfn@yahoo.com:

How was it working with the cast of Being Eve?

We didn't actually meet any of them untill we were involved with the filming of the last episode in the second series, and it was a lot of fun. We talked to a lot of the cast and had a really fun day. For those of you who don't know, we are the band playing at the Ball in the last episode of the second series. I don't know if any of you have seen it yet over there, but have a close look when you see it next.

The cast were great! I had a good chat to Fleur (Eve) I got her to sign an autograph for my little sister Natalie who is a big fan. She is really cool and was more than happy to do that for my sis.

crazygirl35052@aol.com:

Are you ever going to come to the US? How is it in New Zealand?

Well, we'd love to come over to the U.S, definately. But it's just a money and time problem really. However, there have been some interesting developments lately over here that may have oppurtunities some time in the future to go over to LA - but nothing is confirmed yet. If we get the oppurtunity to come over to the States, we'll jump on it instantly, especially now that we know that people like our music over there.

So hopefully one day soon, we will have a big American adventure and dont worry all you guys will hear about it and we'll do everything we can to get in touch with everyone over there who has got in touch with us. So, we hope to meet you all soon!

kindangel_3@yahoo.com:

I have a weird question, have any of you ever been in marching band?

No, I'm afraid none of us have been in Marching bands before. Our drummer Greg is a trained Jazz drummer and has played in big bands and Jazz concerts before, but that's as close as any of us get to being in a marching band. I did meet a girl who was in a marching band once, I guess over here it's a bit of an uncommon passtime.

Don't worry about the weird questions, keep 'em coming! You never know what you might find out. :)

supersmiley6@aol.com:

My question is what band or artist has made the biggest impact upon your

music?

We have so many musical influences and artists we look up to. Between all four of us there are quite a lot of bands and artists that have had major impacts on our music, and it's this mixture of influences that makes our music unique.

Some of our major influences as a band include Coldplay, Travis, Radiohead and Pearl Jam. As for us individually, John is a huge Jeff Buckley fan - he has made a huge impact on Johns songwriting and signing style. Mark (who plays Bass) is a really big Pearl Jam fan, as well as artists like Tori Amos, Soundgarden and Pj Harvey. But I think the Pearl Jam influence really comes through in his bass playing. Greg is a trained Jazz drummer, so I'm not too sure who his major influences are but I know that he does like bands like Tool, Perfect Circle...I'm sure there's more but I'll have to ask him next time I see him. As for me I've been brought up on a healthy diet of the Beatles which is still a big influence for me. But I also love Radiohead, Elliot Smith and Travis. But for me Personally, the Artist that has had the biggest impact on me is Neil Finn. I don't know if you've heard of him, but he used to be in the New Zealand band Crowded House and is now a solo artist. He wrote the song Don't Dream it's over ("Hey now, Hey now, Don't dream it's over") You may know the song. He is my biggest influence.

dramaqueen139@yahoo.com:

My question is how did you form Jester and what are your favorite songs?

John and I went to Avondale High School together where we met in 1997. We got to know each other and started playing guitar together after I taught him the basics. We started off playing Radiohead and Crowded House covers, first at school and then at a bar in Auckland called the Temple. Then we started writing our own songs and playing more at the Temple and then some other places around town.

Then in about 1999 we met a drummer and Mark (our current bass player) and started playing gigs with more of a bigger sound. We've had a few different drummers come and go, but we met Greg about a year ago and things have been going great. Our music has really grown over the years, going from small acoustic poppy songs to more proffessional sounding, larger musical pieces.

When you say favourite songs, do you mean a Jester song? or any song? If you mean Jester song, I'd have to say a song called Sleepy Kid. It's a beautiful Coldplay-ish song which I have always enjoyed playing and listening to.

wh0rescentedhairspray@hotmail.com:

Can they hook me up with David de Lautour? (Adam on Being Eve) Haha.

LOL! Well actually, funnily enough the De Lautour family are close friends with my mothers best friends family. (!!!confused?) Now, I've never actually met the guy, but the rest of my family were at a Barbeque once about a year ago and him and his family were there. My little 11yr old sister was there as well and got to play Volleyball with David and got a photo with him - which she of course has on her bedroom wall. (!!!Jealous?) ;)

But apparently he has left NZ and has gone to New York to focus on his acting career, so I'm afraid you'll have to hook yourself up with David! :) He's closer to you than he is to me!!!

Thank you all so much for your questions, and thank you even more for supporting our music. You've no idea how cool it is to get feedback and such a positive response to our songs from a country that's so far away! It's awesome.

On behalf of John, Greg, Mark and myself, I just want to thank you again for all your support and interest. Keep the questions coming, we love answering them. Hopefully one day we'll get to meet you all over in your country.

P.S, if you have a look at the last episode of the second series of Being Eve, have a close look at the band playing...that's us!

And also (this is a real big secret - but we want to tell all of you guys over in the states so that we don't loose you guys) but just to let you know...we will be changing our name soon...so be prepared. I can't tell you what it's going to be, but please when it does happen keep in touch with us. It will be all the same songs and Fries with that will still be one of our main songs. But we just wanted to warn you guys. We'll make sure that we get all of our latest news out to all of you guys about what's happening, when we can get CD's over to the US etc so stay tuned!

So thanks again everyone, and feel free to email any of us when ever you want.

See you soon! Ka Kite Ano!

John, Greg Mark and me (Jared)
